Vulnerable Population Assessment
During the process of completing this assignment I made strong connections to the importance of knowledge of various populations. In the health care field I will be working with different types of people from various cultures and populations. This assignment I focused on the Mexican American population and the rise of obesity in this population. During this project I realized how extremely significant this research and work was to my future careers and the health care systems as a whole. Being in the health care field you have to be able to work with and understand other populations, the Mexican American population is one of the fastest growing populations in the United States right now. When I am home for breaks I work for a non-profit community health center and I find that we work with this and multiple populations that we have more than just a language barrier with but also a huge cultural barrier. I connect this assignment to my entire career past college, the knowledge I gained from researching this population is something I can make connections with throughout my whole life.
Discussion:
During this assignment part of my final presentation was to facilitate a discussion with my fellow classmates on my vulnerable population. The goal of this discussion was to have everyone think in depth about their experiences and how they may relate or be relevant to our future work force. We also wanted to audience to share their thought on what they think the future may hold and also some possible ideas on how to overcome and work with language and cultural barriers within the health field.
