Why Health Education Health Promotion?
I chose Health Education and Health Promotion as my major because I have always known I wanted to do something in the Health/Medical field. I chose this major because I wanted to know more about health overall. I could have picked a general Biology or Chemistry degree. But I fell in love with Health Education & Health Promotion the second I was in the introductory class, it is everything I have ever been passionate, Health, fitness, education, and most importantly, helping others. I have not always been in this major, I took a long road to discovering HEHP here at Radford. When I first came to college I had my heart dead-set on Physical Therapy, I came into Radford choosing Athletic Training as my major. I quickly found out that the classes required to go to PT school were not for me. I felt that I would never find anything here that was right for me but my adviser steered me in the direction of HEHP and I fell in love! I am happy I found an undergraduate major that is so very interesting to me as well as relates to my long-term education goals.
What's Next?
After I graduate from Radford University in the Spring of 2016 I will be completing an internship in Richmond Virginia in Occupational Therapy. After my summer internship, I will be searching for a job working out in the health field to gain some real hands-on experience. Then I wish to go to Graduate school to pursue my dream of being an Occupational Therapist within a year or two of graduating from Radford. I have always known I wanted to do some sort of therapy but after learning about Occupational Therapy I knew it was the perfect fit for me. Helping others regain their strength, confidence, and giving them a sense of life back is extremely rewarding and I look forward to seeing what this career holds for me in the future.
