Wellness Wednesday
During my Wellness Wednesday I chose the topic "Safe Spring Break". It was held on the Wednesday before Spring break and we covered some of the popular Spring Break topics such as, safe sex, drunk driving, skincare, hydration, general safety, and the Zika Virus that is on the rise in many spring breaker spots. We had an activity where the student came to the table and put on the drunk goggles then had to walk on a straight line as you would in a sobriety test. The students really loved it, we had a ton of positive comments, and we felt we really showed students how badly your senses can be impaired while drinking. During this table I was assisting students while they had drunk goggles on, they were told to walk in a straight line and were given minimal balance assistance. The students were sometimes shocked when they were shown the video of themselves because they believed they were doing fine. We used this game and the concept to show them that even though you think "you're fine" you are still under the influence. Drunk and impaired driving is an issue that is prevalent around all college campuses, with that being said we felt that having this table would increase awareness and possible prevent students from getting behind the wheel.
In this video you will see one of the interactive learning games we had at our table. The student (Malina R.) put on drunk goggles and attempted to preform the straight lines walk as you would in an sobriety test.
