Help Save the Next Girl
The founder, Gil Harrington of the organization Save the Next Girl came to Radford University. This was a wonderfully overwhelming experience to be able to hear the story of Morgan Harrington, a Virginia Tech student that went missing after a Metallica concert in Charlottesville Virginia. Later Morgan was found to be murdered and the case was a mystery. After their daughter's disappearance, the parents of Morgan Dan and Gil Harrington started a non-profit organization called Help Save the Next Girl because of Morgans story. This presentation was something that I felt needed to be brought to this campus and other campuses around the country because of how likely that something like this can happen to college age students. Also, with Morgan being a Virginia Tech student we were right next door to all of her Hokie friends and family. Gil touched on so many problems with the assault, rape, and other criminal acts on a campus. Most cases go unreported and most cases reported on campus never get brought to the county police. Help Save the Next Girl has worked with legislatures to pass a law that all cases report whether on or off campus should be given the same attention by all parties. This presentation meant a lot to me because of the amount the organizations work affects my life and the lives of other girls.
