Peer Health EducatorsI am a member of the Peer Health Educators on campus. As a Peer Health Educator, I and other members strive to educate our peers on various health topics. We are involved in multiple events around campus, We are most commonly known for our awareness tables inside the new Student Wellness and Recreation Center(SWRC) and the Bonnie as well as dorm presentations. PHE is the organization I deem my home on campus. Though only being a member for two years I feel that this is something that I feel so strongly about and an organization that does so much for so many. We have done tables and presentations on multiple Health topic that we believe to benefit the student body on campus. We want to promote and safe, fun, healthy community here at Radford. Lately, every Wednesday in the SWRC the Peer Health Educators have interactive tables for the students to come and learn about various health topics and HAVE FUN! We will have freebies and sometimes a healthy snack for anyone to try. We use this time to really connect with our peers and ask them what they would like to see us do or if there is a health issue that they think has become popular and may be a problem that needs to be addressed. We believe it is very important that our peers feel like we are here to cater to their needs because that is what being a PHE is all about, we're here to better our peers through health education.

Club Tennis
I starting playing tennis for the school club team in the Fall of 2013 since then I was able to go to tournaments all over the state and sometimes beyond Virginia. Tennis has been a part of my life for a long time now and I can never imagine not playing. This club has really helped me branch out my first few semesters at college, Tennis was the girl extracurricular I became involved with on campus. I also have taken a position on the Board taking responsibility to plan all the community service and volunteer events. Joining this club really has expanded my leadership skills and given me the opportunity to meet new people while playing a sport that I love!
Backpack Buddies
Backpack Buddies is a program that partners with some area schools around Radford. We provide underprivileged children and families that may be suffering from low-income households backpacks full of food to get them through the weekend. We will pick up and fill the backpacks and then take back the bags before school lets out on Friday afternoon. This is an amazing way to get involved and really touched my heart because helping those less fortunate around me is so rewarding and satisfying. We were told by some of the staff at the school that some of these children are overwhelmingly excited to get their packs. It is rewarding to know that what seems like a small action to you is something very massive to another person.
My Leadership & Mentorship
I was fortunate enough to be involved in various student clubs and organizations. I held leadership positions in both PHE and Club Tennis. I served as the Treasure for both clubs which is a position I'm particularly proud of because of the great deal of responsibility I had. Having to collect, carry, and budget other students money and the overall club funds was an extremely rewarding experiance. I gained real world money management skills that I may not have had without these positions. I also was the volunteer coordinator for Club Tennis, this position involved myself contacting possible volunteer spots and setting up dates and times for the club to participate in community work. Throughout my year in this position we were involved in food drives, street clean up and participated in the help of running many on campus activities and programs.
My mentorship is something I hold dear to my heart, having a position in a very interactive and time-consuming club, PHE has given me the opportunity to show the younger members "the ropes" if you will. I often find myself doing anything from helping underclassmen in the group with their homework to teaching the next treasure all that goes into the position. As I said before mentorship id something I hold dear to my heart because it makes me light up to have a new member of the club asks me things or ever just ask me for advice on school or even personal problems. It is extremely rewarding to know that people feel comfortable enough to confide in you as a peer or even a role model. This isn't a feeling I only get within PHE, Tennis is a sport I have played for most of my life and being a higher seed on the team many other players look up to me for advice on anything from their serve to how to keep their composure on the court. Like I said with PHE I often give the new position members tips that I used when I was in that position that may help them.
